Children With Developmental Disabilities

Description: It is the focus of Marrakech's Children and Youth Services to provide a wide-array of service to most effectively meet the needs of the children referred. The services are individually designed by considering the needs of the consumers as well as the needs of families. The primary focus of the services is to provide support services, skills training and behavioral interventions designed to increase the independence of each child and overall wellbeing of the family served. Persons served range in age from 5 - 21 years old and may participate in one or more of the following services:

Individualized Home Supports and Personal Support Services

These services are intended to assist the consumer with learning the skills necessary to remain in the family home and/or to access the community. Supports may include assistance with activities of daily living, skill development training, and community integration/social activities. Activities generally take place partly in the family home as well as in the community and/or at Marrakech program site.

Behavior Services

Behavior Support Services are designed to increase each child's independence within the family home as well as within the community. These services include: an assessment needs, the development of a behavior plan with strengths-based interventions designed to increase positive behavior and decrease maladaptive behaviors, the training of support staff as well as family members on how to implement the plan designed, ongoing monitoring and revisions to the plan as needed.

DCF-Funded Support Services (Voluntary Services)

These services will be customized to meet the unique needs of each participant, their families, and extended communities. Adequate support will be provided to maintain each participant's health, safety, and well being while facilitating community access to the greatest extent possible.

DCF-Funded Therapeutic Support Services (Voluntary Services)

In addition to the support services above, Therapeutic Support Services are designed to provide individualized behavioral interventions implemented to replace problem behavior with other, socially important, functional behavior. The long-term goal of this program is to ultimately reduce or eliminate behaviors that are of concern, and thereby increase each person's independence and ability to be maintained in their family environments with the least support possible.

Staff who work in the Children and Youth Services program are Paraprofessionals supervised by a Master's level clinical Vice President and experienced program managers. Paraprofessionals receive all core Marrakech in-service training including CPR, First Aid, Abuse and Neglect Prevention and Behavior Management Techniques. In addition, Paraprofessionals take in-services on Autism, Children's PMT and other specialized training as the need arises or as they become available. Any Paraprofessional providing DCF Support or Therapeutic Support Services is credentialed by the Department of Children and Families (DCF).

Services are available statewide. Marrakech uses program sites to carry out skill and development and social activities in the following locations: Bridgeport, West Haven, Waterbury and Torrington.

See School and Transition Services page for more information on how Marrakech can work with local schools.
