Community Experience

Helping people exercise their right to choose what they wish to experience!

About these programs

The Community Experience programs are located in West Haven, Cheshire, and New Milford. The programs provide community experiences for adults with developmental disabilities for whom employment is not a primary goal. Staff members work with program participants to maximize independence, choice making, community relationships, and meaningful community experiences. Some participants do paid work such as facility support services in commercial and office settings, community employment, or occasional piecework.

Other activities include the use of resources such as local public libraries, public parks, grocery markets, local merchants, community events, and weekly trips to senior centers for the older adults. Activities are planned with the goals and objectives of the individuals in mind and based on the individual's preferences and choices.

Eligibility

People must meet the eligibility requirements for services. Each referring agency has its own criteria. Marrakech accepts referrals from the Department of Developmental Services.
